Introduction
This web site details a practice that I discovered in my search to improve my awareness of myself and the world. I call this practice Perception Rebalancing. It is an alternative practice to help those of us who may not have a sense of belonging here and have difficulties adapting to this world. It aims to help us achieve a more balanced perspective of ourselves and this world through several exercises. It is hoped that the practice will help to trigger insights and changes within ourselves and allow us to come to a more balanced perception of ourselves and the world and perhaps find a place of belonging while living here.
In general, a perspective or perception is said to be more balanced if it improves our ability to function physically and mentally in a more effective manner in our lives in the long term. Some possible examples are living in a more harmoniously with our environment, eating, living more healthily, or recognizing that some of our patterns, lifestyles or behaviors are not beneficial to us in the long run. It need not be financial or social success or even personal satisfaction or happiness, and depends on the path that one walks. It is likely that there is a general direction in the nature of the balancing but the nuances of each journey is unique to each individual. In addition, this timeline of rebalancing is unknown, it can be months, years or only on our deathbed in this lifetime. We may need to go through varying levels of balance and rebalancing before our perspectives settle into a more balanced state and the timeline is an unknown to us. As our own expectations of the nature of such improvement are influenced by our beliefs and conditionings, it is suggested that we keep an open mind during the practice so that our experiences will not be limited by our own beliefs and worldviews.
The desire to avoid an analytical approach and instead focus on direct experience is also a strong focus of perception rebalancing. Human beings have the arrogance of overestimating our mental ability, and think that we are able to eventually unravel all mysteries of reality through our mind. The reader should not expect that they can read this book without doing any work on their own. Due to the limitations of this world, too often knowledge and concepts has been distorted when transmitted in words, either written or spoken. And many a times, they are ultimately just flowery words to distract and satisfy our ego. For too long, gurus have purported to have all the answers without encouraging the practitioners to find their own answers on their own. And too many a times people just swallow spiritual ideas preached to them bait, hook and sink, and regurgitating without critical thinking. And many seemed to think that they do not need to make more effort other than the act of swallowing the information or simply attending a course. There is no instant gratification in perception rebalancing.
Please note that the practices described here are not meant to be a replacement for conventional medical treatment. If you are having severe medical symptoms, please consult a medical expert accordingly. It is also suggested to not practice Perception Rebalancing if you are having severe spiritual symptoms, in that case please consult a spiritual expert to resolve your issue first before starting the practice.
